Storage and shelf life: what we actually know

2 min read

Enough milligrams for a plan does not mean an opened or mixed vial will remain usable for that long. Use-by dates need evidence for the exact product and preparation.

Three separate questions

  1. 1Quantity: how many milligrams the planned doses use.
  2. 2Stability: whether this exact formulation retains its required quality under its tested storage conditions.
  3. 3Contamination: whether handling and repeated access keep the preparation suitable for use.

Follow the actual product instructions

Dry powder, mixed liquid and a filled pen cartridge can have different storage requirements. Do not assume a universal fridge temperature, freezer rule or number of weeks. Do not transfer a use-by date from a different product, vial or mixing liquid.

When information is missing

Record shelf life as unknown. Ask a pharmacist or the manufacturer for preparation-specific evidence. An intact-looking vial, a COA or a cold pack at delivery cannot prove storage history, sterility or remaining potency.

In your saved protocol

Record the actual mixing date. Add a use-by date only from applicable product instructions; the app does not invent one. The quantity comparison can show leftover milligrams, but that remainder is not permission to keep using the vial.
