BAC water: what to check before mixing

2 min read

BAC water means bacteriostatic water for injection. It is not tap, bottled, boiled or household distilled water. It is appropriate only when your product’s instructions call for it.

Check the liquid and volume

Use the product’s specified mixing liquid and amount. Bacteriostatic water, preservative-free sterile water and saline are not interchangeable just because they look the same. Some medicines are incompatible with a particular liquid or preservative.

Then check the math

Concentration is the peptide amount divided by the final liquid volume—not automatically the amount of water added, because the powder can affect final volume. U-100 units describe liquid volume: 100 units = 1 mL.

BAC water is not a shelf-life guarantee

A preservative does not prove the mixed peptide remains potent or sterile for a particular number of days. The BAC water label says not to store reconstituted medicines unless the medicine’s manufacturer directs it. Its own expiry or after-opening limit is not the peptide’s use-by date.
